Feedburner Problem [Solved]

feedburner* This is a nerdy Tech Tip post, so kindly disregard if you don't need Feedburner assistance *

OK, so many of you know that I co-run Dad-Blogs with my partner in crime Pete Janelle. What some of you might not know is that we have been struggling with a broken feed over there. Feedburner stopped reading our feed and we kept getting the same error message:

(404) Feed not found error: FeedBurner cannot locate this feed URL

It started back in July of this year and we finally resolved the problem and I thought I would share the answer so that those out there struggling with the same issue can know how we finally resolved our Feedburner dilemma.

After disabling and enabling every possible Joomla component, module and plugin I came to a dead end. Finally, I resolved to take it to my hosting company again. I say again because we had brought the problem to their attention in the past, but they had found no solution. I decided to approach the problem differently this time. Instead of asking, "Why isn't Feedburner able to pick up our feed?" I decided to go a different route. Our hosting service is InMotion and they are fantastic I must say, and here's what I asked to get the ball rolling:

Me: The URL is fine and validates through feedvalidator so I think the problem had to do with a connection that times out when feedburner pings our feed. I am not sure where to start as far as a configuration change--I thought you guys might have an idea.

They quickly responded with a question of their own:

InMotion: Thank you for contacting us. If feedburner can provide the IP address being used to poll your feeds, we can check your servers access logs to find out if the requests are being received or if there are any errors that can be resolved.

I found this great site, robtex, and sent that to them so they could check the list of Feedburner IPs against ones that they maybe currently blocking and wouldn't you know it--they found the culprit. Customer support reviewed the IPs I gave them and then replied saying:

Reviewing the firewall it does appear that 74.125.44.136 was blocked which is in one of the ranges listed on feedburners site. I have since unblocked this IP address.

After they unblocked that IP (74.125.44.136) our feed went right through and validated immediately with Feedburner. So, if you are a blogger and you keep getting the pesky Feedburner error: Feedburner cannot locate this feed URL--I suggest you see if any of Feedburner's polling IPs are being blocked by your host.

Say "thank you" in the comment section below if this post helped you in some small way.
