I've seen many bloggers enter into a schedule of topics in order to produce more predictable posting patterns for their readers. Some people can hang with it, while others (me) have a major issue with being oppressed by a schedule. What I've done with some success is committed to one day where I almost always post the same topic. This topic is called Wordless Wednesday.

This is part II of the "Why Blog" series. For more from this series check the following link:

Why Blog? Part I - Obstacles to Blogging

When I first started blogging I had no idea what I was doing.  I humbly wrote amazingly hilarious articles and did little to promote them.  I thought having a site was enough.  Then, as I started go forth and examine the world of blogging I started to notice patterns, styles, interesting widgets and sidebar goodies.  I still didn’t know what all the little buttons on peoples blogs meant, but I knew that I needed to learn more about blogging and how to effectively market myself to compete with other blogs out there.

In this post I have compiled some useful tips that will help speed you through the learning curve of marketing your blog through the internet—Joeprah style.

Adding Drop Caps to Your Blog

on Thursday, 12 June 2008. Posted in Blogging Tips

Have you ever wanted to add some extra style points to your blog and just don't know the first thing about it?  I have coWhat Drop Caps Look Likemprised an easy to swallow tutorial for those who use Blogger, Word Press and Joomla! so that they may be able to add "Drop Caps" to their blogs.  Why?  Because drop caps in all their various forms are cool.  It's a fact.  Drop caps are the over-sized-magazine-style letters that you see in print media and online media alike.  It can take a bland post and turn it into a thing of beauty--well, maybe just a little nicer.

Why Blog? Part I - Obstacles to Blogging

Joeprah on BloggingAs a blogger, you are assailed on a daily basis by unseen forces—it’s is akin to being an exorcist; you are tested on many levels.

Self Doubt

Self doubt, like in any line of work, is destructive.  This doubt can work its way into the psyche of even the most narcissistic of writers—trust me.  Many people may not know this, but I took about 5 months off from blogging because I couldn’t see where I was going with it all.  Doubt is like a virus; it creeps up even when you feel like you are at your strongest, and it can completely wipe you out.  If you blog now or have in the past, you will be able to recognize that this is probably one of the toughest obstacles to overcome.

Your community is online.  You may never see the people you interact with, and this can make the entire experience very disposable and thus, very easy to walk away from at a moment’s notice.  I have seen bloggers come and go in my short time writing online, and there is no rhyme or reason for it.  They can be some of the most talented, funny, bright people I have encountered online, and—snap—they’re gone.

3 Tips to Make Your Joomla Site Load Faster

on Monday, 26 May 2008. Posted in Blogging Tips

Joomla BlackThis post is for Joomla users.  If you aren’t a Joomla user, you are going to be all like, “what-the-fudge is this mumbo jumbo?â€Â  Basically, this post details how to optimize your Joomla site so that you can make your pages load quicker.  Word.

Making a Joomla based site faster:

First, these tips are for those folks that have a Joomla based website that has dynamic content.  In other words, your content changes each time you load your site.  Perhaps your site is dynamic because it is set to announce new users online or randomly display images or content.  If your site has static content, content that remains the same for long periods of time you should look into an extension geared to help improve your page-load times.  Second, these tips are for folks using Joomla 1.0 Native versions.  In 1.5 you can apply these techniques; you will simply approach them in the Global Configuration differently.
