How to Add Custom Social Bookmark Icons at the end of Your Blogger Blog Posts

on Saturday, 20 December 2008. Posted in Blogging Tips

Ok, I don't have a Blogger blog, but several of my blogging friends do.  And after my last blogging tips post, which showed off some creative social bookmark icon sets, I received a question asking how these icons could be added to their Blogger blog.  After a lot of research and a lot of trouble shooting on my test Blogger blog I came up with a solution.  This post attempts to take all the pain out of the process of hacking the code of your template so it will allow you to add the icons without issue.

Hand Drawn Digg IconI had a recent inquiry from a twitter friend regarding my social bookmarking icons and how she could get them.  This made me think, maybe some folks out there would benefit from a comprehensive list of all the most creative (best) social media icon sets out there.  After scouring the internet, I came up with a list of the best designers and their icons for you to look over and choose from.

June - A Bloggin Income Update

on Friday, 11 July 2008. Posted in Blogging Tips

So, my month of June saw me take an aggressive stand and try harder to make money via my blog than ever before and you know what--I did.  For the month of may I made aproximately $40 via Text Link Ads and Google AdSense.  For the month of June I utilized BuzzFuse and attempted to make money via their blog post incentive system and I was scoring fairly well and actually had the highest rated post for the month of June (which meant $500 according to their system) only to receive this shocking letter from BuzzFuse:

Adding Pull Quotes to Your Blog

on Wednesday, 02 July 2008. Posted in Blogging Tips

Have you ever wanted to make your posts stand out more?  A great way to get more attention to your blog and your posts is to visually enhance them.  The technique I am talking about today is "pullquotes."  Pullquotes, like dropcaps, are a type of enhancement for your blog--blog plastic surgery if you will.  This post is designed to make even the novice computer user inclined to not only use CSS, but to feel more comfortable interacting with it in their blog.

Level of Tech Difficulty: 2 (You Need to Be Able to Read this Post, Navigate the Internet and Your Computer and Click on Things)
Have you ever been reading an article and you were all like skipping ahead and reading the big quotes to see what the article offered?  Those 'big quotes' within an article that are actually phrases pulled from the article are 'pullquotes.'  Pullquotes basically rule.  They catch your attention and I am going to share a few pullquote CSS (cascading style sheet) techniques that you can adopt into your own blog.

Why Blog? Part III Reach, Rank & Authority

on Wednesday, 02 July 2008. Posted in Blogging Tips

You may have already seen, if you are a new or seasoned blogger, websites like Alexa and Technorati mentioned or linked to in some blogs sidebars or even their top navigation menu.  If you don’t know anything about Alexa or Technorati or if you know enough to understand you need to know more about each than this post is for you.

When you start blogging you should have some goals for yourself.  All new sites start with a very low Alexa rank and zero authority.  To first have a goal to have more respectable numbers in these categories you first need to know what they are.
